How To Overcome Information Overload

Yesterday we talked about one of the biggest problems people face when trying to get started making money on the Internet: Information Overload.

There are so many ways to make money online that new, and even experienced marketers, don’t always know where to start or what to do next.

So how can we overcome this crippling phenomenon and finally start to enjoy the success that we so desperately desire?

Here are 3 things you can do to get on the road to success:

1) Set up a new email address.

Let’s face it, you’re inbox isn’t exactly your friend. If you’re like me and many others that I’ve talked to, you are bombarded with new offers from expert marketers on a daily basis.

The situation is so bad that when one company I like sends out an offers for health related products, and sends the same email twice in one day. I think they do this because it increases the chances of their message being seen. Given the number of marketing messages this company sends out, I’d have to say it is an effective technique. Great for them, but BAD for your inbox!

One of the most effective things you can do to reduce or even eliminate the temptation of new offers from experts is to set up a new email address and share this with your family and friends.

I realize that this isn’t an easy thing to do, especially if you’ve had your email address for a long time. It is however one of the most powerful things you can do to reduce being tempted by shiny new objects.

The benefit of setting up a new inbox for your most important emails is that after you’ve worked on your business for the day,  you can always go and check the email from your original inbox, even though this isn’t a good idea because you WILL be tempted by doing it.

2) Tem up with an accountability partner.

Another step you can take is to get yourself connected to someone who will help you stay focused. Your accountability partner could be a friend of business associate whom you trust enough to share what you’re working on.

The idea is simple: Tell them you’re working on a new business project, and you want them to hold you accountable for your activities with it. Having someone outside of yourself who can point out when you’re off track and keep track of your progress can have an amazing powerful impact on your progress and overall success.

3) Get a coach.

Coaches can see things that you can’t see, especially if they are in the industry you want to succeed in. Many people have the mistaken idea that a coach knows everything, but this isn’t true.

A coach’s job is simply to see things that you can’t see. We all have “blind spots” in our awareness, and this is where a coach is invaluable. They can see past your blind spots.

The only real questions regarding a coach are 1) where can you find a coach? and 2) how does the coach get paid?

Is Information Overload Is Robbing You Of Success?

If you’re like most people I talk to on a regular basis about their lack of success in making
money on the Internet, then you’re most likely struggling with one huge problem – Information Overload.

It’s true. There are so many people trying to get your attention that very quickly you feel overwhelmed by all of it and don’t really know where to start or what to do next.

What seems to make the problem worse is that expert marketers are constantly coming up with new products, and these people are GREAT at making us WANT what it is that they are offering. I’ve met people who have tons of programs on their computer gathering “digital” dust.

The gurus often use the term “Shiny Object Syndrome” to describe this situation. They know that the majority of people who buy their products will never ask for a refund because they never get around to implementing the product they bought! The thing is, many of the products the gurus sell are really pretty good.

You start out with the best of intentions, buy a program or product, sit down and start working your way through it, and before you know it you’re off to doing something else. After a few days you forget all about your “new program” and are off doing something else.

The sad part is, this can go on literally for years without you even realizing it! Want to know how I know this? Two reasons: 1) I was a master of this, as guilty as the next person, and 2) I know expert marketers who talk about this all of the time.

In my next post, we’ll talk about some ways to overcome Information Overload or Shiny Object Syndrome as it’s often called.

Is It Ok To Fake It Till You Make It?

One of the questions that I will often hear from individuals who are just starting out in this
industry is:

“…But Robert, I’m not really an “expert”, what qualifies me to talk to others about this topic? Don’t get me wrong…I love my niche and I love talking about my niche, but I just don’t feel right “pretending” that I’m some “expert” when I really don’t feel that I am”

This is a GREAT question!

And the fact that I get it so often tells me that most of you are coming from a place of integrity with regard to building your businesses! (WOO HOO! )

Home Business Success Tip #6 – Effective Goal Setting

 

Ok boys and girls, here it is. The advice is this particular lesson may seem a little bit “hokey” but trust me when I tell you…IT WORKS!

I’m not going to go over the importance of having goals; my guess is that if you’ve made it this far then you already know how important goals are. But what I would like to talk about is HOW you set your goals.

There are a few specific things you must do if you want to reach your goals as fast as humanly possible; here they are.

First, you MUST set realistic goals! The single biggest mistake that most people make is that they set unrealistic goals. If you’ve never made a dime in a home based business, then the chances of you making $10,000 in your first or second month is not very realistic.

If however, you made $7,000 in your home business last month and you want to try to up that to $10,000 in the next 30-60 days; then that IS realistic. A common piece of advice I give is to add up all of your monthly bills, (usually this is around $2000 to $3000). If this amount represents you, then it may be a good goal to try to make enough to cover your monthly expenses in 90 – 120 days.

Second, you must write down your goals at least 3 times a week (preferably once a day) and you must write them in first person present tense. Meaning that instead of writing: “I want to make $5,000/month”, you instead write: “I earn $5,000/month by March 5th (or whatever date). Writing your goals “as if” they are already in existence will help you reach your goal much faster. If, for example, you want to reach a certain weight, then write: “I weigh X pounds” as opposed to: “I want to weight X pounds”.

Third, focus intensely on your goals for 15 minutes first thing in the morning and again right before you go to bed. These 2 times of day are the MOST powerful time of day for you to focus on your goals. Simply take the paper you’ve written your goals on and imagine in your mind that you’ve already achieved the goals you’ve written down. See yourself driving your new Mercedes. Imagine looking at yourself in the mirror and admiring your new body. Feel what it’s like to go to the mailbox and get that $10,000 check from your home business opportunity. Focusing on your goals in this manner will help you manifest the results much more quickly than just writing them down and then hoping.

Fourth, you need to be grateful and happy AS IF you’ve already received that which you desire. I already alluded to this earlier when I said to “imagine yourself in a new car”. Go ahead and imagine that now. How does it make you feel? No doubt a smile comes to your face when you see yourself with the thing that you desire. Remember this feeling of happiness and gratefulness and do your best to feel it on a daily basis. To take this a step further, you can even put the following phrase at the beginning when writing your goals: “I am so happy and grateful that…..” then fill in the rest with your goal.

If you are serious about reaching your goals then you will take this information to heart and do EXACTLY what I’m saying on a CONSISTENT basis. As with everything else in life, you will not see any results UNLESS you do it consistently. Goal setting is an integral part of you achieving the success you deserve and desire. But you must do it properly if you want it to work for you.

It’s no secret. We’ve all heard it before. Everyone desires it yet only a few ever achieve it. What is it? Multiple Streams of Income.

I’m going to blunt here, and in doing so I’m probably going to poke a lot of holes in the way you think about multiple streams of income. Let’s make no mistake about it; the concept itself sounds really good (if taken at face value). But the problem is that when most people think of Multiple Streams of Income (MSI), the WRONG image pops into their head. What’s more is that the way that most people think about MSI, is actually HURTING their chances of ever achieving success! Yup, you read that last statement correctly, but I’ll say it again just in case you missed it.

Your current understanding of Multiple Streams of Income is ACTUALLY hurting your chances of getting Multiple Streams Of Income.

Here’s why:

Now try to tie them both at the same time.

Congratulations, you’ve just experienced what most people are trying to do when then try to “act upon” the MSI concept.

One of the biggest mistakes that 97% of home business entrepreneurs make is that they involve themselves in too many home business opportunities. The real secret to Multiple Streams of Income is to have NON-CONFLICTING Multiple Streams of Income (NCMSI), Let Me explain.
I teach my clients to build their own list of home business opportunity seekers and start branding themselves as the expert. If ALL of your focus goes in to building your list (and building a relationship with your list), then you can turn that list into money SEVERAL different ways.

Send an email to your list telling them about an affiliate program and you’ve now got one stream of income. Invite your list to a teleseminar where another “expert” speaks and sells something to your list and you’ve got a second stream of income. Sell your list coaching on a monthly basis and you’ve got a third stream of income. Tell your list about your MLM Company and (if they join) you’ve got a fourth stream of income!

What’s more is that all of these streams of income came from initially doing ONE thing.

All of the streams of income are now “non – conflicting” and all stemmed from one source. NCMSI (Non Conflicting Multiple Streams of Income) is the new way of thinking about MSI, and is giving home business entrepreneurs a fighting chance at becoming successful.

Home Business Success Tip #4 – Build A List! Build A List! Build A List!

 

It’s important that you understand that your success/failure as an online entrepreneur isn’t based in whether or not you succeed or fail in any given program or opportunity. It’s based on YOUR EMAIL LIST!! Opportunities come and go but the relationship you have with your list is what will make you REALLY successful.

I dare you to go and interview 20 top marketers and ask them what the most important aspect of their business is. I’ll bet you $1,000 that most of them will say it’s their email list!

Building an email list is actually quite simple.

All it takes is 3 steps

1. Choose a niche market! Some sample niches might be: making money online,
weight loss, back pain relief, real estate investing, how to be a better parent, etc…

2. Once your niche is chosen, put up a little one-page website called a “Squeeze Page” the squeeze page will offer them free advice in exchange for their name/email address.

3. Your Auto-Responder. Once someone has typed their name/email-address into the fields on your squeeze page; that information gets put into an auto-responder like Aweber or IContact. An auto-responder is just the “thingy” that allows you to you e-mail people whenever you wish

That’s it! You now have the ability to BUILD YOUR LIST! All you need now is a little bit of traffic and you’re good to go!

You MUST understand…making money in a home business endeavor has NOTHING to do with the particular opportunity you join (assuming of course the opportunity is legit). Instead, it has to do with you having a list! Having a list is the “secret” that all the big dogs have been using for years. It works so well because it positions YOU as the expert; and people always want to follow those who they feel are more successful than they are!
